Back to the Future in Dolores Park

On Saturday September 26, 2015, a group of Inaugural Class students went to Dolores Park to watch a free screening of Back to the Future. Back to the future was the last film in the summer Film Night in the Park series which shows free films on Friday nights in Dolores park during the warmer months.

The park was filled to the brim with eager movie-goers who had flocked to the park to watch the 80’s classic, filling in every available grassy area. Many of the attendees had packed picnics, brought blankets, and other amenities to add to the experience for themselves.

The first few minutes of the film were off to a rough start with the speakers not clearly projecting the sound, this problem was quickly fixed and from then on the film was nothing but enjoyable. Events which engage the community and bring people together to enjoy a common activity are an incredibly important part of urban life. the Film Night in the Park program exemplifies this perfectly.

“Having never seen back to the future before I didn't know what to expect. I ended up having a great time though. The movie was highly entertaining, the company was perfect and the candy was an extra perk. I hope to get the chance to watch the sequel soon, preferably in the same setting” said Inaugural Class student Teodor Dovichinski about his experience at Film Night in the Park.

The already mildly chilly day turned quite cold once the sun had set, and it was clear why the summer series was ending as fall had obviously already begun. Despite the cold night many of the attendees transitioned directly from the grassy hillside to Bi-Right Creamery for some of the best ice cream in the city.
