On Friday October 2, 2015 a group of Inaugural Class (IC) students, organized by fellow IC student Guy Davidson went to watch the San Francisco Giants face off against the Colorado Rockies.
For most of the attendees it was their first time at AT&T Park, and the view from the stadium overlooking the diamond and bay was a sight to behold. Despite the large impression the crowd entering the park gave off, the stadium was emptier than it would have been earlier in the season. This is not surprising as both teams were out of contention for the play-offs.
While baseball is one of the most watched sports in America, the international student body at Minerva meant that several of the attendees had never seen a game before. “it was incredible to finally watch a baseball match. I had seen a few scenes on american movies and tv shows, but I had never understood the game. Especially because we don't watch it in Brazil. Jeff explained it to me, and I was very surprised how much I enjoyed it. It became one of my favorites sports. The best part was to do it here, in San Francisco. I think that's a very interesting part of the american culture. Also, I was really happy to share this moment with the incredible people at Minerva. It was an awesome experience. Go Giants!” Said IC student Lusana Ornelas about her first baseball game.
Despite the Giants losing, watching a baseball game at AT&T Park remains an important part of the San Francisco experience.
